Hulbert Financial Digest "Would Be" Rankings
Mark Hulbert began monitoring investment newsletter performance in 1980. Currently, Hulbert Financial Digest and Hulbert Interactive monitor the performance of about 180 stock and mutual fund investment newsletters. Although Fidelity Select Fundranker’s performance is not yet tracked by Hulbert Financial Digest and Hulbert Interactive, it stacks up very well against newsletters that are tracked.
Hulbert Financial Digest maintains computerized model portfolios for the newsletters it tracks, and Hulbert Interactive shows the relative rankings of the newsletters for 10-year, 5-year, 3-year, and 1-year periods each month. In December each year, Hulbert Interactive publishes an Honor Roll of newsletters which have above average performance in both up and down markets. Of the 77 newsletters that Hulbert tracked for the entire period from June 30, 1998, through November, 2009, only nine made the 2010 Newsletter Honor Roll, which Hulbert Interactive published on December 21, 2009.
Here are returns and Hulbert Financial Digest would be6 rankings for the Nasdaq Composite Index (as measured by Fidelity’s Nasdaq Composite Index Fund), the S&P 500 Index (as measured by Fidelity’s Spartan 500 Index - Investor Class Fund), and Fidelity Select Fundranker’s Top Eight Model Portfolio as of 7/30/10 for 10-year, 5-year, 3-year, and 1-year periods. For comparison, returns and actual rankings for the nine newsletters on Hulbert’s 2010 Honor Roll (designated Honor Roll A through I) as of 7/30/10 are also shown:
